SHL Medical acquires Swiss toolmaking company SMC Mould Innovation
SHL Medical, a leading provider of drug delivery solutions worldwide, furthers its expansion strategy by acquiring SMC Mould Innovation, a Swiss manufacturer specializing in high-performance injection molding tools, based in Hallau. Building on its recent purchase of LCA Automation, this acquisition further strengthens SHL’s vertical manufacturing capabilities in Switzerland as it gears up for autoinjector production in Zug starting 2026.
SHL Medical (hereinafter referred to as “SHL”), headquartered in Zug, Switzerland, has announced the acquisition of SMC Mould Innovation (hereinafter referred to as “SMC”), a leading Swiss developer and manufacturer of high-performance injection molding tools located in Schaffhausen, Switzerland.
This acquisition marks SHL’s third acquisition within a year as part of its expansion strategy, following the acquisitions of LCA Automation in Switzerland and Superior Tooling in the United States. The company’s strategy aims to meet the increasing market demand for autoinjectors, expand SHL’s global production capabilities, and enhance competencies across the value chain. Integrating SMC will strengthen SHL’s vertical manufacturing capabilities on a global level, notably at its upcoming manufacturing site in Zug, currently under construction.
Both SHL and SMC share extensive expertise in the development and manufacturing of injection molding tools, synergizing their efforts to provide customers with efficient and innovative solutions.

SHL Medical übernimmt LCA Automation
Die SHL Medical AG aus Zug hat 100 Prozent der Anteile an der LCA Automation AG aus Küssnacht inklusive deren Tochtergesellschaften in Mexiko und China übernommen, informiert SHL Medical in einer Mitteilung. Die Übernahme des auf die Automation von industriellen Prozessen spezialisierten Unternehmens aus Küssnacht soll den Aufbau des globalen Produktionsnetzwerks von SHL Medical unterstützen. Über den Kaufpreis werden in der Mitteilung keine Angaben gemacht.
„Die Expertise von LCA Automation im Bereich der Automations- und Fertigungslösungen wird unser bestehendes Angebot ergänzen und uns ermöglichen, unseren Kunden eine umfassendere Palette an Dienstleistungen anzubieten sowie Innovationen zu beschleunigen“, wird SHL Medical-CEO Ulrich Fässler in der Mitteilung zitiert. Für Chris Rennhard, CEO von LCA Automation, wiederum werden mit dem Zusammenschluss der beiden Unternehmen „Kräfte in der Produktionsprozesstechnologie und Maschinenbau“ vereinigt. „Die daraus entstehenden Automationstechnologien werden eine schnellstmögliche Erfüllung von Marktanforderungen unter Beibehaltung interner Prozess- und Qualitätsüberwachung ermöglichen“, meint Rennhard.
Die global aktive SHL Medical AG ist auf Medikamentenverabreichungssysteme wie Autoinjektoren und Pen-Injektoren spezialisiert. Das Zuger Unternehmen will die Neuerwerbung bei der Optimierung seiner Hochgeschwindigkeits- und Grossserienfertigung sowie für die Ausstattung der derzeit im Bau befindlichen Produktionsstätte in Zug nutzen. Zudem könne LCA Automation die von SHL Medical als wichtiges Alleinstellungsmerkmal genutzte vollumfängliche Eigenproduktion verstärken, heisst es in der Mitteilung.
